Meet Sydney Cook
A native of Auburn, Alabama, Sydney earned an undergraduate degree in Economics at Duke University before coming home to earn a law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1974. Sydney then went on to earn his LL.M. in Taxation from the New York University School of Law in 1975.
Sydney has practiced law in Tuscaloosa and the surrounding area since 1975. Sydney practices regularly in the areas of real estate, wealth and asset protection/planning, business planning, business succession planning, and the use of partnerships and LLCs. He has additional experience in the areas of charitable giving and tax exempt organizations. He regularly advises privately held businesses regarding business issues and their various tax implications and benefits.
He has extensive experience in the area of succession planning in assisting companies in protecting the future of their businesses and their business legacy. In the area of family businesses, he works with clients on transferring ownership of family owned companies to succeeding generations with minimal tax consequences. Sydney also advises on purchases and sales of businesses and other tax planning matters relating to the disposition of assets in an economically efficient manner.
